SPECIAL ISSUE ON

New Software Composition Concepts

Deadline: 30 October 2003

Guest Editors:
Elke Pulvermueller, Gerhard Goos, Uwe Assmann

The Journal of Science of Computing Programming has planned a special issue on  new software composition concepts.
This special issue is promoted by the Consortium of the EU Project EASYCOMP IST-1999-14191 (http://www.easycomp.org). It aims at a composition handbook containing new research results as well as sound (industrial) experiences in the domain of composition technology.

Topics of Interest include but are not limited to:

Specifications:

  • Definition and specification of components
  • Distinction between properties of components which are already well-known in other paradigms (e.g. OO) and new properties unique to component-based approaches
  • Requirements in composing systems and component systems
Process Support:
  • Software development processes for component systems
  • Design for composition
  • Evolution and versioning
Techniques:
  • Meta-modeling and transformation systems with respect to composition
  • Component architecture and composition infrastructure
  • Composition techniques and composition operators
  • Techniques for component adaptation
  • Component interactions
  • New language-specific support
  • Dynamic composition
  • Component systems in environments with limited resources (e.g. with respect to run-time or storage)
Correctness:
  • Verification and validation, proving composed systems
Transfer:
  • Component technologies supporting infohabitants in the emerging information ecosystem (e.g. support for new types of infohabitants, their activities or their adaptation to changing conditions)
  • Relevance of the Semantic Web in composition
  • Relevance of the principles and techniques of other paradigms and software construction principles (e.g. Aspect-Oriented Programming)
Basics:
  • Theoretical and formal foundation
  • Experiences in research and industry, practical experiences using components
  • Open Issues in component-based software engineering

Reviewers:

The contributions for the special issue need to be reviewed and for this we are looking for volunteers who are interested in acting as reviewers. Reviewers will be named in the introduction of the special issue.
Interested experts are welcome to register as reviewer at URL:
http://www.info.uni-karlsruhe.de/~pulvermu/journals/scp-SCC/reviewers.html

Registered volunteers will be chosen as reviewers depending on the number of interests, the expertise (with respect to the submissions' contents) and on the submissions.

Important Dates:

Deadline for submission :               October 30th, 2003
Notification of acceptance:           March  15th, 2004
Special issue's publication:            Autumn 2004

Guest Editors:

Elke Pulvermueller(Universitaet Karlsruhe, Germany)
Gerhard Goos (Universitaet Karlsruhe, Germany)
Uwe Assmann (Linköpings Universitet, Swede)

Submissions:

Authors are invited to submit a full paper based on their recent results on composition concepts (in english, up to 14 pages) via the online submission system at URL:

http://www.info.uni-karlsruhe.de/~pulvermu/journals/scp-SCC/submission.html

The papers should be in standard Postscript Level 2 or PDF (Elsevier's camera-ready format, one-column). Only electronic submission will be allowed.
The manuscripts should not have been published previously and should not be currently submitted for publication elsewhere.
It should include a 300-word abstract and a list of keywords that identify the central issues of the manuscript contents.

For the final version of accepted papers only LaTeX source will be allowed: http://www.elsevier.com/locate/latex

In case of any questions do not hesitate to contact the guest editors.
