| Arbeitsgebiete
Prof. Goos wurde 1970 als erster Informatik-Professor nach Karlsruhe berufen. 1986 bis 1991 war er Vorstandsmitglied der Gesellschaft für Mathematik und Datenverarbeitung (GMD), der größten deutschen Informatik-Großforschungseinrichtung.
Von 1986 bis 2004 gehört er dem Board of Trustees des International
Computer Science Institute in Berkeley, Kalifornien an. Von 1971 bis 79 und wieder von 1992 bis 1996 war er gewählter Gutachter der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), von 1973 bis 2003 Hauptherausgeber der Lecture Notes in Computer Science und Mitherausgeber mehrerer wissenschaftlicher Zeitschriften.
Prof. Goos zählt zu den Gründervätern der deutschen Informatik. Er ist Autor mehrerer Lehrbücher im Bereich der Informatik sowie Mitherausgeber der Zeitschrift Informatik-Spektrum.
Seine wissenschaftlichen Leistungen bestehen in wesentlichen Beiträgen zur Übersetzertechnologie: G. Goos entwarf attributierte Grammatiken und den ersten europäischen ADA-83 Compiler. Später konzentrierte er sich auf Fragen der Codeerzeugung.
