| Arbeitsgebiete
1986 bis 1991 war Prof. Goos Vorstandsmitglied bei der Gesellschaft für Mathematik und Datenverarbeitung (GMD), der größten deutschen Informatik-Großforschungseinrichtung. Seit 1986 gehört er dem Board of Trustees des International
Computer Science Institute in Berkeley, Kalifornien an. Von 1971 bis 79 und wieder ab 1992 ist er gewählter Gutachter der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), seit 1973 Hauptherausgeber der Lecture Notes in Computer Science und Mitherausgeber mehrerer wissenschaftlicher Zeitschriften.
Prof. Goos zählt zu den Gründervätern der deutschen Informatik. Er ist Autor mehrerer Lehrbücher im Bereich der Informatik sowie als Mitherausgeber verantwortlich für folgende Zeitschriften:
Informatik-Spektrum
Informatik Forschung & Entwicklung,
Software Concepts and Tools,
Formal Aspects of Computing.
Seine frühen wissenschaftlichen Leistungen bestehen in wesentlichen Beiträgen zur Übersetzertechnologie: G. Goos entwarf attributierte Grammatiken und den ersten europäischen ADA-83 Compiler.
